Job Description

A substitute teacher is a temporary educator who fills in for regular classroom teachers when they are absent. The primary responsibilities of a substitute teacher include:

  1. Classroom Management: Maintain a positive and orderly learning environment. Enforce school and classroom rules to ensure student behavior is conducive to learning.

  2. Lesson Implementation: Follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher or create engaging and educational activities if lesson plans are not available. Ensure the continuity of the curriculum.

  3. Instruction: Deliver lessons and instructions to students, answering questions and providing support as needed. Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.

  4. Attendance and Reporting: Take attendance and report it to the school office. Provide feedback on the day's activities and student behavior to the Substitute Coordinator.

  5. Supervision: Monitor students during classroom activities, recess, lunch, and other times as required. Ensure a safe and secure environment for all students.

  6. Flexibility: Be adaptable and flexible to different teaching environments, grade levels, and subjects. Substitute teachers may be assigned to various classrooms within a school.

  7. Communication: Communicate effectively with school staff and students. Relay important information to the regular teacher and adhere to school policies and procedures.

  8. Professionalism: Demonstrate a professional attitude and appearance. Uphold the ethical and professional standards of teaching.

  9. Problem Solving: Handle disciplinary issues and conflicts that may arise during the absence of the regular teacher. Use effective problem-solving skills to manage classroom challenges.

  10. Emergency Procedures: Be aware of and follow emergency procedures, including evacuation plans and other safety protocols.

  11. Feedback: Provide constructive feedback to the regular teacher about the day's activities, student performance, and any other relevant information.
