Job Description and Duties

Working under the direction of Chief of Plant Operations I and guidance of Chief Engineer I, the Maintenance Mechanic will perform miscellaneous skilled work in the maintenance, alteration, and repair of buildings and mechanical systems; may instruct, or lead, Building Maintenance Worker(s); and to do other related work. Will utilize methods, materials, and equipment used in the operation and repair of plumbing, heating, electrical, water, and sewer systems; materials, methods, and tools used in the repair of mechanical equipment and in miscellaneous building maintenance and repair work and skill in the performance of such work.

Working Conditions

Subject to fingerprinting and criminal record clearance by the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation and Tuberculosis clearance. This position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.

Special Requirements

• The position(s) require(s) a(n) Certificate as specified in MQ's Certificate. You will be required to provide a copy of your certificate prior to being hired.

**EXAMINATION** Individuals who do not have lateral transfer eligiblity, must have taken and passed an examination to obtain list eligibility for the classification in order to apply.  List eligibility may be obtained by meeting the minimum qualifications as outlined in the examination bulletin, and obtaining a passing score on the exam.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL), or willingness to learn.

• Have strong maintenance aptitude with an understanding of operations, maintenance, and repair in a school, campus, or facility setting.

• Experience with purchasing processes, providing estimates for material and supply requisitions.

• Ability to perform minor building construction and repair work, including miscellaneous interior and exterior painting.

• Ability to exercise initiative and independence with the ability to make sound decisions in identifying problems and finding resolutions.

• Be a team player in working with trades, engineering, and other maintenance staff.
