About the Liu Shiming Art Gallery:

The Liu Shiming Art Gallery is dedicated to preserving and sharing the legacy of renowned Chinese sculptor Liu Shiming, while fostering global dialogue on art, history, and culture. Operated by the Liu Shiming Art Foundation, the gallery serves as a hub for exhibitions, public programming, artist engagement, and cross-cultural exchange.

Position Overview:

The Curator will lead the development and implementation of exhibitions, educational programming, and curatorial projects at the Liu Shiming Art Gallery. This position is integral to shaping the artistic vision of the gallery and furthering the foundation’s mission to support artists, foster cultural understanding, and honor Liu Shiming’s legacy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Exhibition Planning & Execution

Research, plan, and curate exhibitions in alignment with the gallery’s mission and vision

Select artworks and coordinate with artists, collectors, institutions, and lenders

Oversee layout, installation, and de-installation of exhibitions

Develop interpretive materials, such as wall texts, catalogs, and didactic panels

• Collection & Artist Engagement

Maintain relationships with artists, scholars, collectors, and galleries

Identify established artists and relevant themes for future exhibitions

Manage loans and ensure proper care of artworks during exhibitions

• Program Development

Organize public programs, artist talks, panels, and tours in connection with exhibitions

Collaborate with education staff and external partners for community engagement initiatives

• Communications & Outreach

Work closely with marketing to promote Liu Shiming’s artwork, exhibitions and events

Contribute to grant proposals, sponsorship opportunities, and donor cultivation

Represent the gallery at public events, conferences, and in the media

• Administrative & Budget Management

Develop and manage exhibition budgets

Coordinate shipping, insurance, and condition reporting of artworks

Ensure compliance with gallery policies and procedures

Qualifications:

• Native English speaker
• Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Curatorial Studies, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
• Minimum 8 years of experience in curatorial or exhibition management roles
• Strong knowledge of contemporary and/or historical art
• Strong interest or familiarity with Liu Shming’s work and 20 th century Chinese sculptures
• Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work both independently and collaboratively
• Proficiency in project management, budgeting, and database tools

Compensation: Based on experience
