Responsibilities:

First Shift

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures, and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability.

This position is responsible for maintaining quality related manuals and records ensuring quality, sanitation, and production records are legible, accurate, complete, maintained, and easily retrievable for customer and quality audits.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assumes personal responsibility to insure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.
  • Ensures regulatory compliances at all times.
  • Ensure quality, sanitation, and production records are legible, accurate, complete, maintained, and easily retrievable.
  • Update and maintain facility batch and quality related records.
  • Assist in the drafting, revision, and maintenance of plant standard operating procedures.
  • Assist in the tracking of Production Specification Change Requests.
  • Participate in plant food safety/quality inspections, in-process inspections, mock recalls, label audits, HACCP audits, and thermometer calibrations as required.
  • Maintain quality related manuals and records (i.e. SQF training, batch records, pest control documentation, customer specific files, etc.)
  • Assist in investigations in response to customer concerns or other quality related deviations to determine root cause and appropriate corrective actions.
  • Assist in the management of quality hold activities, including non-conforming product inventories.
  • Assist in the collection, evaluation, and submission of product samples to outside laboratories for product evaluations.
  • Assist Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor and Technicians as needed.
  • Expected to adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained in order to maintain SQF Level 3 certification. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers and management.
  • Performs the job responsibilities of the QA supervisor in his/her absence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Back-up as needed to cover other QA techs when absent, on vacation, etc.
  • May have to come in early or stay late as needed to cover QA Checks, Pre-ops, or QA Testing.
  • Make up Tech schedules, Audit schedules, and Monitor QA Activities-Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Annually.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

One-year certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and in group situations.

Ability to respond to questions from internal/external customers/vendors at all levels including management.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Bachelors degree in food science, or industry related degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential functions of the position.

Proficient communication skills

Knowledge of company and regulatory policies, procedures, and philosophies.

Proficient organizational and time management skills.

Basic proficiency using computer programs (MS Office) for collecting and analyzing data and writing procedures and reports.

Basic proficiency using statistical and quality related problem-solving tools.

Demonstrated proficiency in critical thinking and problem-solving.

Ability to participate in cross-functional teams.

Data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Basic administrative duties.

Ability to operate specific equipment or tools.

Ability to type or take shorthand and speed required.

Skill in working with computers and experience with spreadsheet and word-processing software.

Familiarity with special terminology such as legal, medical, or scientific terms.

Fluency in a language other than English.
